In September 2021, Imagine Dragons released the fifth studio album "Mercury - Act 1". He was expected for three years. Rick Rubin himself took over the production, leading the band in a completely different direction. Instead of a standard set of pop songs, he forced the band to make the values new.

According to frontman Dan Reynolds, the producer was able to convey to him the idea that growth - musical and semantic - is important not only for music but also for its fans. That's why it was important to go from just creating hits to a whole, conceptual work. "Fans not only want to grow with me, but also expect it from me. The year has reminded me: don't worry when you try to do something awkward, unusual for others. I only do worse when I try to repeat past success. Sincerity and openness is what they expect from us, ”says Reynolds.

Rubin set the rule for working in the studio with him - honesty and only honesty, no matter how painful it was. Hence the name of the album, which originated from the word mercurial, ie. unstable. Thus, Imagine Dragons reflect two things - the lack of belonging to the genre and Reynolds' long struggle with mental problems.

"The meaning of art is to share all the moments - both bright and gloomy. I believe that if you talk openly about your struggle, it will help someone else. Yes, Mercury - about loneliness, search, struggle with yourself. But in at the same time, it is a bright, varied musical record that ends on a happy note. Notes of a clear and stable future. "

The ability to talk about their problems to a wide audience and the multi-genre nature of "Mercury - Act 1" was appreciated. The album easily hit the top 10 of many charts around the world, and the tracks "Follow You" and "Monday" claim the status of new hits and permanent residents of the set of "dragons". And Kyiv will be one of the first to hear them.
